The boys headed to Burwood Reserve for week 2 of the game against Burwood. After a brilliant
bowling performance the boys were chasing 78 of 45 overs.
The top order was very solid, with the first 5 taking us past the total. We continued to bat despite
already passing the total.
The stand out with the bat Max Hudson achieving his highest score with 34. A great performance,
Well Done Huddo.
Another few notables were Malty Lynas who got 13, Luka Filips got 13, Nick Ziogas got 11, I got 23
and Roy got 13. Some great starts from a few of the boys. Hopefully we can turn them into 30-40’s.
In the end the boys finished with 7/146 off our 45
Great win, which catapults us into 2nd. With one more game before a well-deserved break, a win is
The Hillers headed to Burwood Reserve to take on 2nd place Burwood (we are 3rd) I won the Toss!!!!! And bowled, we were expecting a tough night and our thoughts looked correct when the openers really looked like they knew what they were doing.
We bowled unbelievably well not only keeping the run rate low but taking wickets at regular intervals. At Tea we had Burwood 6/26 off 26!!
After tea they started making a few more runs but still we kept the run rate low. Eventually bowling them out for 77 with only 4 balls left in their 45 overs.
Everyone bowled really well so I’ll go through everyone’s figures
Roy Girvan 0/6 off 4
Dan Bluer 1 for 4 off 4
I was lucky enough to get 5/9 off 6.2
Max Hudson 3/9 off 6
Luka Filips 0/2 off 4
Nick Ziogas 1/2 off 4
Gaelan Petit 0/3 off 4
Declan Niere 0/9 off 4
Matt Lynas 0/12 off 4
Dylan McMeekan 0/13 off 4
A really good effort to bowl 2nd on the ladder out for that. We will still really need to work hard, if we really want to be a serious contender this year we need to win this.
We were back at Chelsworth Park for week 2 of the game against East Ivanhoe.
With a score of 197 we went in confidently we could defend it. We started off quite well getting a wicket for only 18 runs. The game was a tight affair with us bowling well and them batting well.
At tea they were right on the run rate, in a positive for us they were 4 down, thanks to Malty Lynas getting 2 wickets in a row. They had a player make 60 so he had to retire so basically they were 5 down. We then knew we had a really good chance.
Their 6th batsmen came out and started belting us around the park.
It came right down to the end, they had 1 wicket in hand, and needed 20 off 5 overs. It got down to them needing 8 off 2 overs and had a guy on 57 (he was told he was on 59, this meant he couldn’t make any runs as he would have had to retire and we would have won) He then decided he would try to hit a 6 and a great catch was taken by Gaelen Pettit, giving us the win.
A tense game and a great effort to come out on top.
On a perfect afternoon for cricket, the boys headed out to Chelsworth Park to take on East Ivanhoe. I had the week off so Luka Filips took the captaincy for the game, in a first for our team we won the toss and batted. The outfield was quick and with Roy Girvan blocking the ball for 4 we knew we needed 150 as an absolute minimum. The boys batted really well, Roy was unlucky in his 15 odd runs. With a few wickets cheaply Luka and Tom McKenzie came to the crease and had a wonderful partnership with Tom making 29 and Luka making a brilliant 60 odd. With some late hitting from Dan Bluer (23), the boys made 200 off 45. Very defendable but with a quick outfield will still require a good bowling performance.
It was a cloudy, drizzly and bitterly cold Friday afternoon. Must have been the start of the cricket season!
The Under 16s were hosting North Balwyn at Ramsden St. The opposition won the toss and elected to bat.
After 6 overs the game was pretty even with Connor and Noah doing fairly well to hold them to 0/21.
Then James Bluer took the ball and had 2/4 after 3 overs.
The two batsmen now at the crease started to take the long handle to it and managed to add 60 runs in 8 overs before Matt Kenna and Riley Terrens combined for a run out to break the partnership.
The run rate steadied, Jimmy took another wicket finishing with 3/9 and Dan O’Connor chimed in with one wicket to have North Balwyn all out for 106 from 20 overs.
Things didn’t look too good at 1/10 (Riley caught behind for 2) after 4 overs when James joined Andre Yaksender at the crease. A steady 10 over, 52 run partnership (JB caught for 31) however left us with time and wickets.
Dan (18 n.o.) joined Andre (51 n.o.) and together they added 50 in the last 7 overs to take the score to 2/113, victory for the Hillers and a welcome distraction from the cold.
Make sure your team manager sends through the highlights from each match so we can put them up here through out the season.
If you haven't registered for a team yet, it is not too late!
There are still spots available in all age groups, including the new Under 18 side which will play Friday nights.
