Congratulations to the women who represented Clifton Hill CC in our first ever competitive women's game. It was a big a moment for the club and thanks to everyone who have helped make this happen and who have been part of the journey!
The CHCC Women's 1st XI travelled out to Keon Park for the first game of the season to play against the Preston Himalayan Strikers.
Preston won the toss and chose... to bowl. Mistake number one.
The Clifton Hill batters took to the crease and proceeded to bludgeon 122 runs off the allotted 20 overs. That included two compulsory retirements: Claire 35 n.o. and Rebekah 35 n.o. Also in the runs, Emma with 12 n.o., Parshana 3, Steph 1 and Liddy 1 n.o.
At the end of the innings, Clifton Hill were 2/122.
When it was time to field, the pressure didn't let up for Preston. Nine players bowled at least one over. Everyone bowled well, but the pick of the bowlers were Emma with 1 for 10 off 3 overs, Rebekah with 0 for 11 off 3 overs, Steph with 1 for 6 off 3 overs and Liddy, bowling leggies, with 0 for 8 off two overs.
At the end of the innings, Preston were 4/85.
Clifton Hill wins their first ever women's match!
Thanks to Dave Wright, Scott Mills and Scott Morgan who came down to watch the women play and help out with scoring, coaching and eating the morning tea.
Next week: Clifton Hill vs Camrea Stingrays at Rammo, 9am Saturday 14 October. You'd have to be mad to miss it!
