Round 4 saw the First XI men and the Women victorious - and that's as far as it went.

The Women (last Sunday) batted first and made a comfortable 127, with Willow retiring on 35 the standout performer along with Clare B.

Bowling, the opposition were really solid at 2/72 and we thought we might be in trouble. But after a major breakthrough, their resistance faltered and we managed to knock them over for 117. Really good solid performance by all the women, the Chicken went to Willow for another outstanding performance with the bat, followed up by 2/16 with the ball. Well done.

Our First XI was victorious out at Frog Hollow. Batting first, we were a bit shaky at the beginning getting to 3/40. Eamon and Jim Bluer steadied the ship and got us to 94 before Jim departed on 19. With a cameo 24 from Ben Slav and Eamon making 72 we got 144. This may not have been enough, but a couple of early breakthroughs from Ben Slav and James Wright as well as a runout or two saw the opposition slump to 5/49. They build a bit of a partnership but needed 8 an over from the last 7. Ben Slav, Eamon and despite a loose penultimate over from James, they needed 18 from the last over. With some great death bowling from Eamon we held them back finishing with a run-out. Chicken to Ben Slav and Tom Bellis to Eamon. Well done the 1s.

That folks is where the good news ends unfortunately. The best thing we can say about the rest is that - well, we have always wanted a highly competitive firsts side and we've got it. There is also a bit of improvement happening (notably in the 4s who narrowly went down in a tight finish) and some fun here and there. Highlights were Louie McGlade getting both the openers in the 2s (studying for exams must have had some effect); Toughy and Frog continuing some form with the bat in the 3s; Harro continuing his great form with the bat in the 4s and a fine batting and bowling effort from Hunter Lewis. The 5s had a bye and the 6s at least batted out the overs and had a bit of fun. Finley Ward was the standout there.

Bring on next week!
