Claire Williamson (Trouper) the captain and coach of the CHCC Women’s teams and coach of the junior girls has had to rush to England after the sudden death of her father Kevin Williamson early on Monday morning.
Claire’s ability, commitment and all round easy going nature and lover of club sport was obviously inherited - Claire grew up playing cricket with her dad and her brothers.
It is obvious to see that Claire is a chip of the not so old block. Kevin, her dad, was a stalwart of his club Wendron, both in football and cricket.
An aggressive middle-order, attacking batsman, Kevin played cricket for Wendron’s first, second and third XI’s, over three decades, captaining the latter for the 2000 and the 2001 seasons. He also managed the Under-15 and Under-16 XIs and was always proud of their performances.
A shoulder injury prevented him playing much cricket in recent years but an invitation to captain the Chairman’s XI against the Lifetime President’s XI, to celebrate the club’s forty years at Underlane, enticed him back to the hard-ball game for just a few more appearances.
Wendron United chairman Kevin Williamson died after watching his team's historic victory. He was 63.
Claire was extremely close to her dad and being so far away when he died was heart breaking.
From all of us at CHCC we offer our condolences and send our love.
