October 2025 CHCC Update

Season Updates

Senior Women:

After five rounds the Women have only seen themselves on the pitch for two games so far, primarily due to weather conditions. The women have had one convincing win against Canterbury and a very close loss against Preston Druids coming down to the final three balls. Across the two games there has been a good spread of players taking wickets and a number of batters with 50s to start the season. It is a really promising group, who are all excited to get on the pitch more frequently in the lead up to Christmas.

Senior Men:

It’s been an awesome start to the season for our senior men’s teams, with the 1st XI leading from the front - unbeaten from their first three matches, including an outright! The whole team has contributed with six of the eight players who have batted this season scoring fifties. Jimmy Wright’s two 6-fers and Ben Wilcox’s 100* in the boys’ outright win over STC were some particularly outstanding individual performances.

The 2nd XI had a tough first two rounds of the season, despite some great efforts including Lucian’s 5-fer against Toorak. The team took plenty of learnings into their round 3 clash against North Alphington to get their first win for the season thanks to a great team effort across disciplines!

The 3s similarly had a tough first two rounds coming up against quality opposition before getting their first win for the season against North Balwyn in a great team effort.

The 4s have had a solid start to the season, winning their first two games and losing their most recent. Skipper Hoops has led from the front, scoring a fifty in each game and backed up by handy contributions from the whole team.

The 5s have also had a decent start to the season, winning their first game comfortably thanks to a Chucky masterclass, scoring 50 and taking 3-fer. A special mention to 5th XI stalwart and club legend Billy Tsikrikos who reached 200 games for the club at the start of the season.

Ben Wilcox and James Wright add their names to the honours boards

Juniors:

After 3 rounds, we are delighted to see our junior teams settling into the rhythm of the season, all experiencing both the highs and lows of cricket and most importantly, having a lot of fun with their team mates along the way!

Girls (Stage 1 & 2 Spirit) - 2 defeats (1 close, 1 not so close) followed by a very satisfying win over Deepdene. Owing to numbers, we are currently working with EGWC to consolidate the cohort into one Stage 1 Stars team to help this great group of girls have a terrific season.

U10’s - 3 losses hasn’t deprived our U10’s of a great spirit and lots of promising performances.  This is where our junior players first start to play real cricket matches and the transition from Blasters can be a real challenge.  We look forward to see their inevitable improvement through the season.

U12C’s - like the U10’s and despite their 3 losses to date, Tim McDonnell’s U12 cohort have created a terrific positive ‘team vibe’ and we look forward to seeing them grow and develop through the season.

U14B’s - CHCC’s most successful team with 3 wins from 3, our U14B’s are on a roll and developing into quite the high-performing team.  The 1 wicket win in round 2 chasing West Ivanhoe’s 181 with the winning runs scored with 3 balls to spare will no doubt be a season highlight.  The 10th wicket ‘Clifton-Hill’ partnership (Leo Clifton & Arie Hill) will go down in club folklore - you couldn’t make it up!!

U16A’s - a special thanks to the club for investing in a turf oval to allow our premier junior team play the best teams in the ECA on the best ground possible.  After 2 wins from 3 against high-performing teams our lads have really started to hit form with the 17 run win against top dogs Toorak-Prahran (a benchmark in fielding excellence and reminder of the huge value of the dot ball - 70% of all balls bowled - and not dropping catches!

U16C’s - our merged team ‘experiment’ with North Alphington has shown us all the merit and value in collaborating with other like-minded clubs.  The team have gelled well with 2 losses, 1 win and a TIE!!! (97-97 against Burwood).  A special thanks to NACC for the spirit into which they have entered into this joint affair.

U18’s - our most inspiring team!  After not winning a match last season, it would have been so easy to move on but the spirit in our U18 troops, together with a couple of new and high-value additions to the cohort have pushed them on and while they are 2 losses from 2, the round 1 clash with Burwood showed that they can compete with the best of teams (our innings 7-182!).

A special thanks to Cam, Bec & Eloise (Girls), Scotty K (U10’s), Tim McDonnell (U12’s), Josh Reid & Matt Thomas (U14B’s), Judy Weber (U16C’s), Dan Castelow & Charles Bickford (U16A’s), Liam Brown (U18’s) and the Junior Committee for making all this real!

As ever there are many many more who help to make this happen and who deserve our thanks so forgive me for those not mentioned - you know who you are!
